And that's a wrap! Thank you, Tokyo
All good things come to an end, yet we leave feeling very proud of our Deaflympics GB Team who exceeded expectations. 12 medals, including 5 golds and 11th in the medals table out of . In addition, all of those selected to compete were placed high in their events, many achieving their personal best.
For a team that is one of the very few countries without funding this is an incredible achievement and based on a budget of £500,000 one would argue it was done on a shoestring, or as a colleague once mentioned, the team was funded on bake sales!
Our next challenge is to share our story and to continue to raise awareness to everyone back home, in particular policy makers and colleagues in the sports sector.
Deaf people are a vital part of the wider community and recognising our elite Deaf athletes now without further delay is important as we start planning our next cycle to compete in 2029.
Finishing off with a visit to the British Embassy and meeting the Ambassador was a highlight for those selected athletes who attended a reception in beautiful surroundings. As we left after the reception, it was a sheer coincident to see one of the banners outside the embassy stating 'It's time to invest in Great'. Indeed it is.....
Thank you to everyone who has been in touch offering support and for those who joined us in celebrating our athletes achievements. This is just the beginning of a new era in Deaf sport.
