Day 4 in Tokyo by Chris Ratcliffe

Day 4 in Tokyo by Chris Ratcliffe 18th November 2025

Today I tried something for the first time, being a golf caddy for one of our athletes. Whilst it was such a privilege to see some fantastic golf being played close up as well as feeling part of the team, I can’t help but feel somewhat frustrated that I have to caddy simply because we don’t get any government funding. Due to the lack of funding we had to make some difficult budget decisions where volunteers like me support our athletes in what is normally a specialised role.

That said it was a great first day from the golf team. Windy conditions to start with the sun popping out from behind the clouds on occasions. Course was tough, greens were rolling quick and the flags were in tight positions.

Paul is currently sitting 2nd with Aiden and Robbie in Top 20 after the first day of the singles competition. Lydia sitting 10th and Karen in Top 20 which is brilliant for the two ladies 1st round in Deaflympics.

Turning to football, GB men faced off against Iran in a deciding qualifying match in Group B. where GB needed at least a point to progress and Iran had to win.

The first half was very even and in the second half, the wind really picked up and was against GB, which made it hard for the men to play out. Iran, knowing that they had to win, threw the kitchen sink at GB. A heroic effort from the boys meant the game finished with a clean sheet.

GB now face Japan on Thursday 12:00 at the J-Village Stadium in the Quarter Finals.

Never have A ever been done relieved to see a football match end in a draw! Many congratulations on the Great Britain men for holding their own against Iran as everybody knows GB faced a difficult draw in a tough group.

We also had more tennis today with Pete Willcox wining a three set against his French opponent. Unfortunately, Esah lost in 3 sets against an experienced and seeded Austrian player, with Charlie winning his consolation game.

Everyone seems in good spirits as the Games go on and soon we will see our swimmers in action.
